Elle Strauss

Elle moved from London to New York City in 2006, and she's happily married to her photographer husband James Dimmock (also British) and the  couple has a 3 year old daughter, named Honor.

After starting as a fashion assistant for the cult British publication The Face, she moved to Company, a high street fashion magazine published by Hearst UK. After moving to the states and settling in NYC, Elle served as the Senior Fashion Editor at Lucky Magazine, and most recently became Style Director at the popular online retailer Shopbop.

What can’t you travel without and why?
Moisturizer and an iPad for my daughter Honor – loaded with every Disney movie EVER made.

What’s your favorite travel destination and why?
We just went to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for a family holiday. We were total tourists and went everywhere from the rainforests to taking the tram to the top of Corcovado to see Christ the Redeemer. Best holiday ever.

If you could choose one person to show you “their New York City,” who would it be and why?
New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham – I imagine we would go around the city on bicycles!

What or who has inspired you recently, and why?
My daughter, Honor, who wants to be a princess everyday – who wouldn’t be inspired by that?

What are your favorite NYC restaurants?
Extra Virgin, Minetta Tavern, Lovely Day, and Frankies 457 Spuntino in Carroll Gardens.

What’s your go-to spot in NYC for drinks?
Gilligan’s at Soho Grand, or The Leadbelly on the Lower East Side.

What’s a must-do NYC recommendation?
I love Smorgasburg, the food market at the Brooklyn Flea. One rule: go hungry!

What album or song would you consider your personal soundtrack to NYC?
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey. When I first moved here, it seemed to play in every bar every Friday and Saturday night, so it kind of became our theme song!
