Recently celebrating its 10th birthday, the Living Room has become a firm fixture of the Lower East Side music scene. Co-owned by married couple Steve Rosenthal and Jennifer Gilson, Gilson first opened the Living Room in a former fried chicken joint a few blocks from the current location. That was on Stanton Street and, due to its overwhelming popularity, in 2003 it moved to its current location on Ludlow. This venue has a well-earned reputation for nurturing young and unknown musicians, famously including Norah Jones. With around 10 acts per night, it’s hard not to find something to like here. And if all else fails, it’s easy to fall back on the good company and great atmosphere: all of which makes the Living Room feel very much like, well, a living room.
