Since 1971, Souen has been offering natural organic food to New York diners, with the foremost priority being to serve delicious meals in keeping with good health. Their goal is for everyone to experience real traditional Japanese food as well as delicious Macrobiotic food. They prepare things simply and naturally, offering the best quality grains, beans, and produce with no chemicals, preservatives, meat or dairy products used in their kitchen. They also employ traditional methods of preparation whenever possible. Menu favorites include the Maze rice (rice mixed with seasoned carrot, string beans, shiitake and burdock) and the Macro plate (a balance of steamed greens, vegetables, brown rice, beans and hijiki seaweed with a dressing on the side), both filling & energizing meals. Teas, Norwalk cold-pressed juice, and organic sodas are available to drink, while desserts are wheat, sugar, egg and dairy free.
