Colorful, fun, authentic, and cozy – these are the words that come to mind when describing Pig & Khao, the latest Southeast Asian restaurant to grace the Lower East Side. Fatty Crew Hospitality Group opened P&K in partnership with TV’s ‘Top Chef’ alum Leah Cohen, offering Thai and Filipino influences throughout their dishes. Although regional favorite Crispy Pata is the star of the large plates on the dinner menu (e.g., pork shank cooked in soy sauce and served with their ‘secret family dipping sauce’), it was the smaller offering of mussels (with Chinese sausage, yuzu, dashi, Thai basil) and the ‘mantao buns’ (soft and pretzel-like) that stole the show. For dessert, grab ‘The Turur’ (banana fritter with salted caramel ice cream). With outdoor seating (weather permitting), weekend brunch, and $1 beers from 5-7pm every weekday, there are plenty of reasons to head over to Pig & Kao any day of the week!
