Housed in a hundred-year-old Romanesque Revival school building in Long Island City, Queens, MoMA PS1 presents an extensive program of exhibitions and events in its nearly 125,000-square-foot facility. With such a rich architectural history, it follows that art here can be found in unexpected places; bathrooms, stairwells, classrooms and janitor’s closets. Known also by its full name of P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, the space stands out amidst the NYC art scene due to its consistent involvement with new artists, genres, and bold work by recognized artists. In the summer, the gallery’s pulsating fusion of contemporary art, dynamic architecture, as well as experimental deejays and bands spill outside onto the art center’s patio.
