Art and adult beverages? Count us in. Operated in conjunction with Lit Lounge, this cozy art space on Second Avenue and East 5th Street balances the guilt of downing one too many with a jam-packed calendar of cultural events. Starting out with a rare U.S. exhibition of the legendary H.R. Giger, Fuse has since then shown Mick Rick’s Syd Barret photographs, as well as works by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Dead Kennedys’ Winston Smith. Replacements drummer Chris Mars’ work exploded after showing here, his pieces skyrocketing almost immediately into the $15,000 range. In the spirit of Max’s Kansas City of the Warhol Days, Lit is a one-of-a-kind New York institution that makes high art viewing and low brow drinking socially acceptable again, and to that we heartily raise our glass.
