Pastels, paisley, pinstripes? You won’t find things of such nature at Atelier. Rather, a muted, almost monochromatic color palette and carefully deconstructed garments for men. Atelier’s austere space, located on Spring and Hudson, has allowed the brand to greatly expand their selection of high-end men’s clothing, shoes and accessories. The avant-garde, Japanese and Belgian-inspired selection features designers such as Ann Demeulemeester, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garçons, Rick Owens, Carol Christian Poell, Guidi, Label Under Construction, Number (N)ine and Undercover all under one West Village roof. Formerly a co-ed clothing store called A., the boutique was renamed Atelier New York in 2004 and rededicated exclusively to high-end men’s clothes, shoes, and accessories. Widely known as expensive and there may not be a polka dot in sight, but you’re sure to walk away with a piece of timeless, sartorial sophistication.
