NYC based 6-piece jazz ensemble Carte Blanche breathes new life into jazz classics from around the world. Effortlessly transitioning from 20’s and 30’s American jazz standards to 40’s Parisian swing, bossa nova, cumbia, Russian, Yiddish, and Italian selections, the band’s dynamic and engaging act is a time capsule filled with vintage international musical gems- many of them rarely heard live. The group also incorporates original compositions, offering a modern twist on the tried and true styles of the 20’s 30’s and 40’s. The band features Spanish born, Mexican/American raised vocalist Cristina Kaminis whose unusual and sultry vocal quality captures the essence of the era, and enchants audiences with her impressive knack for languages and musical styles; easily flowing from Edith Piaf to Buena Vista Social Club renditions. The ensemble’s versatile instrumentation featuring accordion and violin has a rich and captivating sound that is powered by a tight rhythm section. With their stunning white vintage accoutrements, they have developed a large group of devoted fans around the globe who love them as much for their look as for their commitment to preserving the music of a by-gone era.
Danny Jonokuchi is an American jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, and music director based in New York City. He is an active member of countless New York City based ensembles. His playing can be heard on dozens of studio recordings including radio broadcasts, musicals, television commercials, video games, and more. Danny is an international touring artist and has performed in the U.K., South Korea, Sweden, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, Croatia, and Belgium.
"ALL I WANT" (2017) is his debut big band album with an all-star cast of NYC-based musicians. The album features over 20 instrumentalists and 2 vocalists on 8 original compositions and arrangements that pay tribute to the big band tradition. The album is now available for digital listening.
Danny has performed at the Village Vanguard (NYC), Birdland (NYC), the North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam, NL), The Bimhaus (Amsterdam, NL), The Jazz Bakery (Los Angeles), The Apollo Theater (Harlem), The Kimmel Center (Philadelphia), and J@LC Dizzy’s Club Cocoa Cola (New York).
Danny has arranged music for many ensembles including The Duke Ellington Legacy, The Terell Stafford Quintet, The Dick Oatts Sextet, The New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra, Hannah Gill & the Hours, The Chris Norton Big Band, The After Hours Jazz Band, The Gordon Webster Band, The Greg Ruvulo Big Band, Carly Robyn Green, Svetlana & the Delancey Five, The South Philly Big Band, and The JM Jazz Orchestra. Danny is a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.
Danny has produced several albums including Hannah Gill's "After Hours Jazz Band," Ricky Alexander's debut record (2018), "Reboot" (2013), "All I Want" (2017).
Danny has an undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies from Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance in Philadelphia. There he was under the tutelage of trumpeter Terell Stafford as well as Dick Oatts, Norman David, John Swana, and Bruce Barth. He has also studied composition and arranging with David Berger. His other notable mentors include Matt Finders, David Washburn, Ira Nepus, Luis Bonilla, and John Mosley.
