WEEKEND GUIDE: GRANDLIFE RECOMMENDS
EAT:
A secret Aztec subterranean den that provides a double dose of atmosphere, both bar and restaurant, Pulqueria dishes out authentic Mexican cuisine with unique milky-white Pulque cocktails that pay homage to the restaurant’s Yucatan origins. We thought this the perfect spot to hit for the Cinco de Mayo celebrations set to happen all over NYC this weekend. From chef Nacxitl Gaxiola, the menu is comprised of genuine Mexican fare with entrée standouts including the fish tacos and chicken enchiladas verdes and the seasonal pumpkin seed and sundried tomato dip appetizer.
DRINK:
Cinco de Mayo – 5th of May is a nationwide celebration marking Mexican heritage and pride. For most, it’s a great excuse to drink margarita’s and wear beautiful, big mexican hats. The Yard at the Soho Grand Hotel officially opens for the Summer season on Cinco de Mayo, and will hold an exclusive event to celebrate. With special guest DJ’s THE MISSHAPES, Mike Nouveau, Franco V, Florencia Galarza, Peter Miszuk and hosts including Walid Almaaz, Ivan Dominguez, Tommy Tostada and Steven Rojas! Saturday, May 5th from 4pm – 10pm. Don’t forget to order the Grand Margarita – it’s the best-made Margarita in Manhattan.
SHOP:
Nicholas Kirkwood’s NYC store will finally open its doors today (Friday, May 4), at 807 Washington St. After a long wait, and a few delays with construction, the gallery-esque 1,500-square-foot store will launch with an opening party that Nicholas Kirkwood himself will attend with great sigh of relief. Also happening this weekend is French label, A.P.C.’s overstock sale. As one of GrandLife’s favorite labels, A.P.C. is renown for creating perfect wardrobe staples including sweet, casual dresses, preppy sweaters, boots & flats. One of the most popular sales each season, get there early to nab up to 75% off - 51 Bergen St.
PLAY:
BAM’s annual ‘Crossing Brooklyn Ferry’ festival is currently taking place. With an amazing line-up of bands, films and artists on schedule including Beirut, Pat Mahoney & Nancy Whang DJ Set, Oneohtrix Point Never, Atlas Sound and My Brightest Diamond, if you’re keen to head to BK, this will be the place to be. If you prefer to stay in Manhattan, you won’t want to miss the M-A-C & Ponystep Issue 3 party at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. DJ’s Matthew Stone and DJ ROKK will provide the soundtrack for the event and you can get warmed up with complimentary drinks by Kanon Vodka from 10pm – 12am. It’s RSVP only, so make sure you get emailing.
