THINGS WE LOVE: KIM GORDON X SURFACE TO AIR

Sonic Youth’s front woman and iconic 90′s heroine, Kim Gordon is no stranger to fashion design. In the early 90′s, Gordon (along with Daisy von Furth) started sister company to Beastie Boys’ X-Large streetwear label, X-girl (modeled by Sofia Coppola and Chloë Sevigny). X-girl became the official uniform of hip NY girls, from Zoe Cassavetes to Ione Skye, and if you weren’t all about it, you were not cool.
Gordon continued to dabble with fashion throughout her career, and collaborated with NYC boutique, NO 6 on a line of hand painted t-shirts for their 5th anniversary, as well as with Sportmax, Urban Outfitters and now with boutique and creative studio, Surface To Air.
The NY Times announced the Surface To Air x Kim Gordon collab today, reporting that collection will be made up of “basics that all pair easily with each other.”
The 12-piece collection features cropped neon-tangerine pants, black, brown and snakeskin boots, a soft leather jacket and T-shirts printed with Gordon’s own illustrations.
The collaboration began when the Surface to Air crew saw Gordon playing a show in a pair of their boots. “In 1991 I was listening to Sonic Youth and in love with Kim’s voice,” says the Surface to Air founder and C.E.O., Jérémie Rozan. “So how do I feel about collaborating with her in 2012? Lucky.”
