IN BLOOM: AZEALIA BANKS

NY native, and bright young thing, AZEALIA BANKS signs to Universal Music.

Three days ago, 20 year old New York native, Azealia Banks used her Twitter account to announce that she has signed to Universal Music. “God just dealt me a new hand today reaaaaaaaaaaallllly good hand,” she exclaimed. “Wow I just wanna drink a million bottles of champagne and do a million bell kicks right now.”

It’s been an amazing start to the year for Banks (formerly known under the pseudonym Miss Bank$), with news that she may also release an album mid-May, she secured a spot at the almighty 2012 Coachella Valley Music Festival, and has all but sold out her UK tour which starts next month.

This all began when Azealia featured her songs “L8R” and “212″ (featuring Lazy Jay) on YouTube… The latter, named after her the NY area code, has garnered more than 2.5 million views since it hit the site in September 2011. The black and white video features a dancing, smiling Banks spitting potty-mouthed rhymes while smiling sweetly, standing in front of a brick wall. Despite the cheekiness of the lyrics, her beautiful, grinning face is captivating, and the tune is ridiculously catchy.
