ARTS: ANDRÉ SARAIVA – ANDRÉPOLIS @ THE HOLE
Nightclub mogul, and street artist du jour, André Saraiva will present his first solo body of artwork at The Hole Gallery in NY’s LES on Thursday evening.
Born in Portugal, Saraiva is renown in New York for his global nightclub empire (Paris, Tokyo & NY), Le Baron and has continued to forge a diverse and successful career in the art world.
Having featured in the Paris night scenes in the highly regarded Banksy documentary, “Exit Through The Gift Shop”, Saraiva created his signature character (a winking smiley face called ‘Mr. A’) which he graffitti’ed on mailboxes all over France during the ’90s.
His new work, entitled ’ANDRÉPOLIS‘ is communicated as being an “all encompassing representation of the art culture Andre sits as the centre of” and featured sculptures and paintings through to merchandise and parties.
His last exhibition which was held at Half Gallery turned out to be a heaving gathering of New York’s downtown scene, so if that’s anything to go by, Thursday night’s launch is sure to be a similar event. GrandLife recommends getting there early if you’re there for the art.
