Back in the day, the owner and some jazz heads used the store as a nighttime club house, and that vibe is solidified today with live performances every Sunday night at 6pm.

This is the place where you will walk out with some records purged from the personal collection of some top-tier post punker, or recently unearthed dead stock of countless soul fusion lost classics. Everything here is a score due to its location in close proximity of the aging art elite – this is their dumping ground. For jazz, soul and funk, the racks are your bible. For everything left of center, this is where you mine the real finds. Thumbing through their singles boxes, you can relate to the prospector striking gold in the bed of a ripe but unsifted river.

Since its inception, In God We Trust has evolved into a multifaceted brand, comprised of both men’s and women’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories with three store locations in New York City (one in Manhattan, the other two in Brooklyn). Inspired by everyday life, Shana Tabor’s collections embody her traditional New England upbringing, with her own dark humor added into the mix (visible through the infamous ‘Sweet Nothing’ necklace collection – delicate brass and silver hearts etched with naughty inscriptions). Going against the grain of most brands, IGWT prides itself on manufacturing all of their designs exclusively in the USA (either in the city’s Garment District or their Greenpoint studio). Other independent labels that fit Tabor’s aesthetic are also stocked in-store, such as Billy Wolf dog accessories and Richer Poorer designer socks. The vibe is casual retro, and the Nolita shop is decorated with antiques (also for sale) to help fit the mood. This quirky, unique shop is must-stop on your next downtown shopping adventure.

What do you need when you’re not going out? That’s where Steven Alan’s brand new home shop comes in. Collaborating with Greg Buntain and Ian Collings of Fort Standard to transform their old offices into a skylit space that’s both modern and organic, the first Steven Alan store dedicated to any and every home-related product is a must-visit destination. Nothing is off limits if it enhances the home environment – textiles, plants, and even flash-frozen vegetables and fruit from Hudson Valley Harvest make the cut. The shop also exclusively carries J Pickens for Steven Alan – a capsule of made-to-order sofas Alan created in collaboration with NYC-based furniture designer Jason Pickens – as well as unique glassware made in collaboration with Brooklyn Glass.

Winnie Beattie is New York’s modern day Superwoman. She’s a wife, mother, owner of successful PR firm Siren, and runs Warm, downtown’s hottest (no pun intended) boutique with her husband Rob Magnotta. Husband and wife met while surfing in Montauk, and they bring that effortless seaside attitude to their cozy store. Even in the dead of winter, just stepping into Warm will heat you instantly. The shop space was once an olive oil factory, and retains the original hardwood floors from that time, except now they’re decorated with zebra-print rugs and tropical plants. Parisian Vanessa Bruno dresses hang next to Hawaiian-influenced Tori Praver bikinis, just a step away from books on surf culture, music, and fashion. Beach-scented candles, handwoven towels, and healing crystal necklaces are just a few of the exotic selections you’ll also find in store. There’s even a lush back garden to relax in after your sure-to-be shopping spree.

To summarize: Warm is a unique treasure amongst so many fashionable boutiques in the neighborhood, worth checking out even just for the fuzzy feeling you get once inside.
